2 Free The Little Mermaid Fonts That Look Like Disney’s

Disney’s The Little Mermaid’s iconic movie cover features a beautiful font, which cannot be bought anywhere online. Thankfully, there are 2 options that look just like the original and are even free. Here I’ll show you which fonts and how you can use them for your mermaid projects.

What font is used in The Little Mermaid Title?

The movie The Little Mermaid is one of the most popular, classic Disney movies. It was first broadcasted in 1989. Because of its popularity, several sequels and a TV series followed. Most recently, the live action movie adaptation of the classic has been scheduled for 2023.

Just like the movie, the font that is used on the title of the cover and posters, is equally beloved. No wonder, people are wondering what font it is and if you are allowed to use it.

But Disney’s The Little Mermaid font actually isn’t a real font. It is simply the design for the letters that Disney created for the movie: uppercase letters with cute wavy horizontal lines on some letters. You cannot purchase the exact font from Disney and it, therefore, doesn’t have a name either.

Some font sellers online however do offer very similar versions. I found two such Little Mermaid fonts that are even free to download and use. So let’s get right into it.

Which free fonts look like the title in Disney’s The Little Mermaid?

The two fonts I found are called “Mermaid Tales” and “Little Mermaid”.

1. Mermaid Tales Font

Mermaid Tales is a font by Joanna Vu which is clearly inspired by The Little Mermaid. This is a beautiful uppercase serif typeface that is almost the same as the original Little Mermaid font style.

This font is for personal use only. If you want to use it commercially, you need to contact the seller.

A note on using the font: When I made this image showcasing the font, I noticed how the letter “R” created a slight empty space on the right before the next letter followed. This may depend on the program you are using. I solved it by simply copying the rest of the text into a new text field and moving it into the right position by hand.

So just be prepared, if you encounter this issue too, there are easy fixes. If the problems persist, buying the full version of this font might help. I have however not tried that and can’t say if it makes a difference.

2. Little Mermaid Por Kustren Font

Little Mermaid is a font by Kustren which includes 150 uppercase characters and is also very similar to the movie typeface. Compared to Mermaid Tales it is however a bit more decorative as it features cute small swirls on each capital letter.

This font is free for personal use as well as for commercial use.

Which font should you use?

When deciding which of these two fonts you want to use for your project, you can make your decision based on what exactly you want to use the font for.

If you want to stay closer to the original Little Mermaid style of the movie title, then I would suggest that you use the “Mermaid tales” font. But if you want to add some extra swirls, then I would go with “Little Mermaid” by Kustren.

To get a better idea of how these two fonts compare to the original, I made this image so you check it yourself. On the top, you can see the original Disney movie title and below the two free fonts. Number 1 is “Mermaid Tales” and number 2 is “Little Mermaid”:

No matter which Little Memaid font you decide upon, both are perfect for a wide range of applications. This includes creative uses for crafting such as lettering and birthday cards as well as online uses such as for your website, quotes, business cards or anything else you want to create.
